First, lemme say that the excellent advice I've found on this board over the last several weeks has given me a glimmer of hope that perhaps I'm not doomed to the 7-year subprime gulag I've sentenced myself to...thanks to everyone for their time, expertise, and good humor. Now, down to business: has anyone heard of two judgments being rendered on one repossession (more precisely, on the balance of the repo after its auction)? Ford filed one judgment in district court; one in circuit court. Both were for slightly different amounts. A few years and several garnished paychecks later, both judgements are listed as "satisfied," but they remain as two black eyes on otherwise somewhat-better-than-average credit reports. Anyone experience anything similar, whether with Ford or with whomever? Thanks, wajaba
Did you move to another state? My guess is that they got a judgemnet in state court, and then filed it in federal court in another state to collect it. I think there is something where the judgement has to be domesticated. In other words, a judgement in one state cannot be collected automatically in another state. They have to file the judgement in the new state first. So, if I'm right, it is technically one judgement against you and the same judgement filed for collection purposes. Having said that, I don't have a clue what the solution is. If I am right, let us know and maybe someone else will have an answer.
Thanks for the info. Didn't actually move between states, but I did change jobs a couple of times, so they kind of had to figure out where to have my wages attached (I know, I'm not proud of that fact). Anyhoo, I'm going to get all of the paperwork from both cases later this week, and I'll see what I can see...
