The other day, my nine year old son wanted to know why we
    >> >were at war. My husband looked at our son and then looked
    >> >at me.
    >> >
    >> >My husband and I were in the Army during the Gulf War and
    >> >we would be honored to serve and defend our country again
    >> >today. I knew that my husband would give him a good explanation.
    >> >
    >> >My husband thought for a few minutes and then told my son to
    >> >go stand in our front living room window.
    >> >
    >> >He told him: "Son, stand there and tell me what you
    see?"
    >> >
    >> >"I see trees and cars and our neighbors houses." he
    replied.
    >> >
    >> >"OK, now I want you to pretend that our house and our
    >> >yard is the United States of America and you are
    >> >President Bush."
    >> >
    >> >Our son giggled and said "OK."
    >> >
    >> >"Now son, I want you to look out the window and pretend that
    >> >every house and yard on this block is a different country."
    >> >my husband said.
    >> >
    >> >"OK Dad, I'm pretending."
    >> >
    >> >"Now I want you to stand there and look out the window and
    >> >see that man come out of his house with his wife and he has
    >> >her by the hair and is hitting her. You see her bleeding and
    >> >crying. He hits her in the face, he throws her on the ground,
    >> >then he starts to kick her to death."
    >> >
    >> >"Their children run out and are afraid to stop him, they are
    >> >crying, they are watching this but do nothing because they
    >> >are kids and afraid of their father. You see all of this son....
    >> >what do you do?"
    >> >
    >> >"Dad?"
    >> >
    >> >"What do you do son?!"!
    >> >
    >> >"I call the police, Dad."
    >> >
    >> >"OK. Pretend that the police are the United Nations and
    >> >they take your call, listen to what you know and saw but
    >> >they refuse to help. What do you do then son?!"
    >> >
    >> >"Dad, but the police are supposed to help!" my son
    starts
    >> >to whine.
    >> >
    >> >"They don't want to son, because they say that it is not
    >> >their place or your place to get involved and that you should
    >> >stay out of it," my husband says.
    >> >
    >> >"But Dad...he killed her!!" my son exclaims.
    >> >
    >> >"I know he did...but the police tell you to stay out of it.
    >> >Now I want you to look out that window and pretend you
    >> >see our neighbor who you're pretending is Saddam turn
    >> >around and do the same thing to his children."
    >> >
    >> >"Daddy...he kills them?"
    >> >
    >> >"Yes son, he does. What do you do?"
    >> >
    >> >"Well, if the police don't want to help, I will go and ask my
    >> >next door neighbor to help me stop him." our son says.
    >> >
    >> >"Son, our next door neighbor sees what is happening and

    Excellent post Lbrown,
now we just have to right the wrongs on humanity in:
    Iran,
    Syria,
    Israel,
    China in Tibet,
    Russia in Chechyna,
    Libya,
    India,
    Kashmir,
    Angola,
    Ethiopia,
    South Africa (still),
    Cuba,
and the countless other countries in Africa.

Then finally evil will be abolished in the world and our children will be able to sleep peacefully at night.

Illinois governor considers taking over casinos
    By MAURA KELLY
    ASSOCIATED PRESS

CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Thursday he is considering an unprecedented state takeover of Illinois' casinos and hiring a company to operate them for the state's profit - an idea immediately called absurd by experts in and out of the gaming industry.

He also said he is considering auctioning off the nine licenses currently in use to raise money to fill the state's $5 billion budget deficit.

The casino industry immediately called the proposals "preposterous."

The governor said his legal, budget and policy teams are "aggressively" exploring the idea of taking back the casino licenses. He pointed to a casino in Ontario, Canada, that is state-owned but run by a separate management firm.

There ya have it. Once you become a liberal, even confiscating legal privately owned businesses becomes Okee Dokee.

After all, who gives a shit about someone else's private property when there's gold in them thar hills.

    LOLOL

    OH BUT WAIT:

""Sometimes you have to say, 'Can you get more money for schools by taking an approach that maybe you wouldn't do at other times,'" Blagojevich said. "

It's for the lil chillens. I guess that makes it ok then.

Man, Butch, your GOPoints tally must be, like, through the roof. Forget the baseball hat; go for the sweatshirt! (And before you go taking that as a barb or insult, in the immortal words of Krusty the Clown, "I kid because I love.")

Interesting article, though. Political desperation is never a pretty sight, regardless of party affiliation.

The old man had died. A wonderful funeral was in progress and the

what an honest man he was, and what a loving husband and kind father he was.

Finally, the widow leaned over and whispered to one of her children,

Dean Regrets Quip About Club Break-In
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wpdyn/articles/A25868-2003Jun24.html

    The Associated Press
    Tuesday, June 24, 2003; 11:17 AM

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Presidential candidate Howard Dean is berating himself for saying he wanted to break into the country club of Democratic Party insiders.

The remark to Vermont reporters Monday came several days after Dean's 17-year-old son, Paul, was charged with aiding in a burglary at the Burlington Country Club.

Vermont's former governor cut short a campaign swing on Friday to return home after his son was picked up by police along with a group of his friends.

Dean made the country club comment Monday just before formally kicking off his campaign for the presidency.
