I have a 10 year old debt from a cable company from some unreturned equipment. I moved back to the area and attempted to establish service with them. My SSN poped up the ~$800 write off and they said I needed to settle it for ~$160 to established service. Can they do this? I think the statute of limitations in this state is six years.

    Thanks

Can they go after you for the money, no. Can they refuse to offer you service unless you pay? Absolutely, there is no law requiring they offer you service. So you don't have to pay, but you need to find different service if you don't want to as there is nothing forcing them to offer you their service.

Thanks, this is what I sort of figured.
