I have been contacted by a collections company because they siad I did not cancel an appt for a spch Dr for my son. I did cancel the appointment through the insurance companies intake dept. The collections company said that becuase I disagree does not mean I do not have to pay the $125 and they will report me by the end of the month.
I wan to sue thier a$$ off if they do. But would rather the worms just crawl back under the rock they cam from.
WHat is the first step I should take dispute is there a certain way I should dispoute to the health insurance company. Secondly, Can the collections still report after Ihad notified them I am disputing the claim?

    tonyastime,

I'm with Lizardking on validation, be sure you send it certified mail with a return receipt.

In addition to the usual documentation requested for validation, I'd ask for a SIGNED copy of their policy or any documentation WITH YOUR SIGNATURE substantiating charging for appointments not cancelled and showing that you agreed to those terms, if they don't provide it, I'd say they are being deceptive and unfair in addition to any other violations.

BTW, an itemized statement isn't enough, I know you addressed that to Lizardking so I'll leave it for him to respond to as well.

sazzy and lizardking. Thank you I will do this. I signed no such agreement. I will definetly start the validation and demand for policy info.
This is why this board is so needed.
I think we will be able to score one for the good guys this time! thanks.

You might wish to send copies to the doctor involved. He may not be aware that his billing service messed up. He is on the hook for any action you take against the CA.

Get a letter from your insurance company's intake department verifying that you cancelled the appointment through them. Then send a copy of that letter to the Dr.'s Office Manager and request that she take care of it immediately or you will be filing charges. I would also find out whether or not cancelling the appt. through the insurance company is the same as cancelling at the dr.'s office. Look at the terms of your insurance policy. Some carriers require that you call the doctor's office yourself. Good luck.

Both my DENTIST and DOCTOR ask that you cancel 24 hours before appointment date...(by calling the office)...if you get sick a few hours before appointment...they can waive the fee on a case by case basis for appointments scheduled in advance...
