What is the statute of limitations in your state for collecting on a charge off? It can't be 9 years! I bet it expired long before 2001 and the collection agency violated state law trying to collect by gambling on your ignorance. Also check to see if they are even licensed in your state to collect. Never assume the Sheriff's office acted legally on their behalf.
