2 NCO collections. Made big mistake

I have two NCO collection accounts for a total amount of a little under 1,000. They are for medical bills. I kept receiving correspondence to pay the debt. Fearful of being sued, I contacted NCO by phone and arranged to pay at the end of every month. So far I am half way done. I have disputed them with the cra's at this point but i'm awaiting the results. After browsing through these forums, I realized I made a big mistake. A paid collection is just as bad an unpaid collection.

So what can I do now? Should I just stop paying them since a paid collection will make no difference to my credit report. How can i go about getting it removed from the credit reports even though I have partially paid it? I read somewhere that nco keeps poor records, would debt validation work and can someone point me to a good letter. thanks for the help.

    well, you can try this...

validation, saying that you only paid them anything to end their harrassment of you, and you only recently were able to decipher their notice that you had any rights to obtain proof of the alleged account.

this sets up a papertrail indicating that the payments were made under deress.

they will probably try to respond.

you validated the account when you made a payment.

your counter, no i didn't, i only paid so that i could have peace and quiet, without having their employees write and call you whenever they felt like it.

*disclaimer* remember that by paying chances are you started the sol for them to sue you over again, so, you want to keep this in mind before deciding what you want to do next.

I sent them a validation letter only pointing out that under 809(b) they had to cease collections until they validated, and that the transfer or sale of the account doesn't evade the rights under the fdcpa that were already envoked, and they processed it like a c&d ;) and sent the account back (according to what they told the bbb).

*Paying on the account would not restart the sol unless payment brought the account current ,Right?
