Well, 2005 was a pretty good year for me. I got a great new job at a dr.s office, I started school again (got an A and a B ), Started a bartending job, saw my sister before she moved back to England, Dad got engaged to a woman he met on eharmony, and the bf finally bought me a beautiful piece of jewelry. THEN there's the bad stuff. I went to the gynecologist in October and told her about a lump in my neck. She sent me to a Dr who sent me for a neck CT on 12/1. The results of that led me to a surgeon's office, who then sent me for a FNA. Basically an FNA is a fine needle aspiration (or a biposy) of the area because there were calcified lymph nodes and a nodule on my thyroid. Now, if you research these conditions, there are MANY possibilities of WHY they are like that. One outcome scared me and I didn't even know if it was Cancer yet. On 12/30 the results came back. Papillary Thyroid Cancer. I was so scared and nervous. I mean, I'm only 29, how can I have Cancer? On Monday January 2, I had my thyroid taken out and some lymph nodes. They took out 7, 4 were malignant and the tumor on my thyroid. One of the surgeons became queasy during the 5 hour operation. I was in the hospital until Saturday night, and saw the surgeon Monday for a follow-up. I have done some research on the type of cancer I have and have found it to be one of the best kinds to get, if there is such a thing. Typically, after the thyroid is removed, a thyroid replacement hormone is introduced, and I generally live a long and happy life. Well, there is a bit more to it than that, but that is the gist of it. Anyways, just thought I'd share my year in revue with you guys!
At least you have good news. I also had a medical scare at the end of the year, but mine turned out not to be cancer at all. I have low thyroid and take medication every day. It's no big deal. I hope you have a great 2006!!
