2007 Collection Action - Uncertain of OC

I don't recall this original bill and have yet to find any record of it, I haven't been able to track down the original creditor yet, and I don't recall seeing anything from the CA informing me about this. This doesn't mean this is all simply a bad dream, but I still haven't turned up any documentation. I moved right around this time so that's probably part of it.

    collection agency-reliant recovery services
    date reported-7/2007
    date assigned-5/2007
    creditor classification-medical
    original amount owed-$155
    date of first delinquency-11/2006

Is my first course of action on this to write the CA for validation CMRRR, wait my 30 days, and...? If so, is there a more recent/appropriate validation letter to use as a guide for this situation? I'm uncertain because many of the topics I've read on validation seem to say be sure to write the CA within 30 days of receiving their first notice, but that doesn't apply here. And as you can see I'm nowhere near the SOL. (First time I saw that acronym I thought it was for "sh*t outta luck.") Thank you for your guidance.

Are you saying you only noticed this on your credit report, and have never received any written communication from the collection agency?

If this is the case, then first dispute this entry on your credit report with the credit reporting agencies (where this account shows up). Await the investigation results, if "verified" then request validation from the CA.

Thank you bizwiz41. As far as I can recall I did not receive any written communication from the CA.

Would you recommend this first inquiry letter to the CRA be sent CMRRR or would that be overkill at this point? In the dispute letter to the CRA would I just say I didn't receive written communication from the CA or only ask them to validate?

I ask because I don't know if it is mine or not or if I paid it or not. (I'm still looking for any record of any of this.) If I had to guess, I'd say it was mine and I already paid the OC. Thanks.

CRAs don't validate. You will need to write the CA reporting. What kind of report are you looking at? The ones straight from the bureaus normally list the OC (which sometimes won't appear on trimerges, especially since its medical).

Thank you jlynn. I'm looking at my credit reports and none of them have enough (if any) information for me to identify the OC. So write the CA asking them for more information. Do anything with the CRAs? Thanks.
