Well, after getting several different "versions" of my credit report online, I called TU and had them send me a hard copy... its a quaruple split file... WOW. I've had it split in two, but never four... we'll see what TU rep says on the phone today.
split file??? is this from the b word? so if you apply for credit what does the potential lender receive??? very interesting...
it is from pulling PG daily, yes... who knows what creditors see when they pull my file. this is probably why I was declined for a pre-approval reason code: lack of credit history... oh well.
kit, I do not know if a split file is a good thing or not. Can't quote and could possibly be simply my hearsay, but I thought I read a post saying that creditors or lenders could not pull their report because of it being split and it was a real pain to have fixed. Someone also said that they could not get a copy sent to their home. I was thinking it might be a good thing if the same held true for CAs and OCs to update. Or bad if to delete a neg tradeline. Would like to know how it turns out for you.
kbean, There is a recent thread over at www.creditboards.com. After reading it last night, it appears it is more a matter of how many inquiries one has. Not a matter of how many TLs. Of course this is just my guess. Check it out when you can. Very informative. He/she mentions how many soft inquiries they have. I forgot the number off the top of my head.
i realize it depends on the inquiries... but if there isn't much to split... how risky could it be? that is my point. i have literally no credit history... just one credit card and 3 student loans in grace... go ahead...split my file!!! j/k thanks for the link.
A person can also have a split file even the the two files are both small. It does not only happen to large files.
A file can also be split if one of the reporters reports inaccurate personal information. I've had a TU split because one company, reported an incorrect address, almost a year after I advised their attorney of the correct address. It was obvious who the only company reporting the incorrect address was because theirs was the only one on that 'copy' of the credit file...
TU put my file back together and I just got the new file in the mail today... BUT, 4 tradelines are duplicated 3 times or more, including one derog. I called...apparently they now have to "investigate" these tradelines... UNBELIEVABLE, it should be incredibly obvious that they are the ones that created the duplicates by splitting the file in the first place. I swear I live my life in 30 day investigation intervals... it is getting tedious.
