I have two Platinum Select cards -- both had $12,000 limits. Last week I called Citi to ask them if they would pull $2,000 from one of the accounts to open a Shell MasterCard so I could take advantage of the gas rebates it offers. They told me they would have to split the line onto another Platinum Select account which I could then convert to the Shell card. Fine. The new Platinum Select card came in the mail today. IT HAS A ZERO PERCENT BT OFFER FOR 12 MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF THE FIRST TRANSFER. I've had my other Citi accounts for about 18 months and I have never received a 0% offer from them. I am going to forgo the Shell card for now and have them move more of the credit lines from my other two accounts to this account so I can use the zero percent offer. If you have pretty good credit lines with Citi and want a backdoor way to get a zero percent BT offer from them, I would recommend having them create another account for you. I'd love to see if someone else gets this too.
Dave, That's good news. Also... If you have a pre-approval for a new card with 0% BT, you don't have necessarily have to apply for it just to get the BT offer. Call retention, fax them a copy of the pre-approval (with your name on it) and have them apply the pre-approval for the BT to your current account. So, you get the benefits of a new card without an inquiry.
Marci, do you know if you can move BT offers from one existing card to another? If so, I could move this 0% to a higher limit account rather than moving credit limits over to the new account.
No, unfortunately, once two accounts are open, the BT offer is only valid for the account that it was initiated on. So, you can move all of your credit line to the 0% BT account, but you will lose credit history with Citibank (internal and external). The only wa to aviod this is to get a pre-approval for a new account and put it on the old account without opening the new account.
If I leave a few thousand dollars on each of my existing cards, why would I loose internal history? I could always move the lines back to the old account when I am done with the offer, right?
Dave. it doesn´t work for me. I called many times to retention and new accounts trying to pass credit line form my Citi Div to a shell and was told that I have to apply for it. Btw they do not approve me for a new card anymore since I have around 30K personal credit from Citi SD. I know that you can convert from one card to another but they say that you can not pass a couple of thousand $ to another new card. You have to use the whole cr limit to convert to another card and they will close your previous card.
You can't (openly) BT from one Citi card to another. Many times, they'll give you the option to get a check to yourself, you can put it in your bank account and use it to pay off the other cards. I wouldn't pay them all right away, they might not like what you're doing. I put it in my money market account for a month and then use it to pay Citi. You need to call them to see if they'll send you a check. If you have other cards that aren't Citi, you can transfer to them.
I am not talking about balances transfer between citi cards. I am talking about to open a new account (Shell) using only a part of my credit limit(5K) from another card (Citi Dividend).
Sorry--I got confused between transferring balances when a BT offer was mentioned and actually transferring the credit lines.
