This site has been very informative. I have some questions about what steps I should take about 6 year old C.C./ Utility Bill debt. The equifax report I pulled shows a Date Of Last Activity on all the accounts (14 accounts total) ranging from 06/97 to 01/98(very bad point in my life). The accounts were opened in NC and that is still currently where I live so I believe the SOL is up. (there were never any judgements placed on me) Should I start doing something with these accounts now or should I wait closer to the 7 year mark and let them fall off my credit report. Is there a legitimate agency that can do alot of the legalities for a fee? I've heard bad stories about credit repair agencies. I am asking about possible law firms that handle the legalities with the credit agencies, collection agencies, and original creditors
should I go ahead and initiate disputes with the CRA's at this time? Or continue to wait it out ? Thanks to anyone that can assist.
STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS (IN YEARS) Open Acct.: 3 Sale of Goods: 4 Written Contract: 3 Everything is past the SOL so you can do whatever you like and all they can do is rack up violations. I would start by just disputing half of them on each CRA as not mine this month. Then next month do the other half. You are probably looking at a 50-75% deletion rate considering the age of the accounts. then you come back here in 2 months and get help tackling the ones that were verified.
Sjones, One of the things you'll want to do is limit your topics to one thread so your answers don't bounce around, a mistake I made at first too. YES! go ahead and dispute it with the CRA's. In case it stays we'll work on a strategy then. As Pic points out, we probably won't have to. Good luck. Keep us posted.
Butch.. thanks for the advice. Is there a chance of the creditors re-aging the accounts by me disputing them? Second question, is there a way for me to start the disputes online or do i have to do all of this by mail. Lastly, should i sign up for access to all 3 CRA's or just use a third party agency to access my credit report.
There is always that chance, it is illegal. Keep all your old reports as you gather them as proof. www.experian.com www.equifax.com www.transunion.com You can dispute all online. The only exception would be equifax, if you are in one of their affiliates. ?? I'm not sure what you are asking (only 1/2 cup of coffee so far!!), but, I would recommend getting at least the first report individually from all three agencies, the 3 in 1's sometimes are not as detailed. Since EQ quit unlimited pulls, I believe the online source everyone is happy with is PrivacyGuard.
