Have been looking at this forum for couple of weeks and thought it is about time I take active role. My Story EQ FICO score 650.Looking for mortgage now and getting quotes about .5% less than the best rates. Not bad but want to improve my score as much as possible in short time. 1.I have about 8 lates in total around 98/99 timeframe.FNANB circuit city(three 30-day late, one 60-day late, one delinq) bestbuy(two 30-day lates) 2.have one collection in 98.Hospital bill for $50.Paid later. In 2001, when I got the report I noticed it still says unpaid, so I called CRA(not sure which one) and told them it was paid later.I noticed recently that instead of updating the first one as paid, they added a new one that says paid.My report clearly says two collections where as it should have been one. 3.From '99 onwards,I have clean history ,paid all bills in time,no negatives, using 0k out of 10k revolv available (all thanks to my wife Now action items. 1.A week ago I called equifax and disputed the 2nd collection entry.I was told they will get back to me in 30 days. 2.Regarding late pays, I am considering writing good-will letters to FNANB(5) and Bestbuy(2).Both are open accounts.Wondering what are the chances for me to have them deleted? Also I read in other posts, when certain derogs are deleted, score actually went down. FNANB limit $450 BestBuy limit $3500. Both are open accounts but not used since '99. 3.I have about 11 open accounts of which 6-7 are dept. store cards.I think I will keep them open as most of them were opened in 97/98 and closing might affect the credit length. NOW MY BIG QUESTION IS AM I DOING THE RIGHT THING AND ARE THERE ANY BETTER WAYS?Please give your advice.
Also one more thing.Credit report does not have my current address in the record.I have been at this address for about two years.Should I get this changed? Any impact on score?
Deleting old addressed won't change score. Is it worth it? It just depends on how much it's getting in the way of you getting the rates you want. FNANB came off easy for me. They sold a bunch of accounts so they didn't bother to respond. The easiest way and less time consuming way to dispute is online or by phone. If it were me I'd do this and see what happens.
Seems really strange... your most recent late was over 3 years ago and you're at 0% utilization. It must be the open collection getting you the 650 - I bet if you got that deleted, you'd be in the 700's...
If I just get deleted the duplicate entry what the impact on score would be?Can it jump to 700's?.I dont think I want to try to delete the collection completely but I definately want to remove the duplicate entry.
How to know if my FNANB acct is sold?Should I still write good will letter? I have disputed dup collection by phone. But good-will letters should be done by mail only, right?.Or does phone aslo work, you know explainging the situation and requesting them to delete it?I dont think we can do that.
Re: Re: 8 lates in 98/99.Worth the time? First one I have already disputed in 2001 and they verified it and stays in the report. It was my fault that I did not check mails properly while on the move and did not pay. Second one is duplicate entry. Here it is not my fault at all.
