Washington Mutual is doing a big push since they took over Providian and are extremely aggressive with the phone calls.... If these calls to your home are driving you batty because they aren't leaving a message, call the Providian customer service and have them take you off the list.
Note that although telemarketters with unrelated companies are required to not call you if you have placed your number on the national Do Not Call List, if you are a customer, this does not apply. You may, however, specifically request that they not call, even if you are a customer, and under the Telemarketting Sales Rule, they are required to maintain a list of numbers for those who have specifically asked not to be called. It would be pretty dumb to continue to call a customer who didn't want to be called anyway, since they would likely take their business elsewhere, but telemarketters call based on their own incentives, not the long term interests of the company.
