For a friend - Does anyone know about Housing Assistance Services out of Oakland. For $550 and a way to avoid BK13 and foreclosure, they will make bi-weekly payment arangements debited from your checking account? I have searched and can only seem to find loose information regarding them for her. Her credit was on its way to the good side and now this. All help is appreciated. I don't know if this will help or not. A few years ago, we ran into MAJOR mortgage problems late 6 months on 1st and 3 months on 2nd. We're in PA and there is something called PHFA - Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency. This government agency approved us for a loan to repay all the back payments and brought us current and paid a small amount on our mortgage for a year to help us get back on our feet. Then we began to make payments back to them and began paying our mortgages on our own. We had to be approved i.e. you couldn't have just stopped making payments just 'cuz you didn't feel like it - there had to have been a reasonable reason why you fell behind, but you also had to have reasonable prospects of being able to maintain the payments on your own. If that was the case, then you were approved. I'd check into a government agency first before going to a private organization - that scares me. I know a friend of my husband's was gonna get into 'helping' people in your friend's situation - behind on mortgage and facing foreclosure. But it was some money-making scheme he saw an infomercial for on tv and what you described made me think of that.... in the long run, it didn't benefit the people who were facing foreclosure - just the people offering to 'help' them. I hope this helps - I know things differ from state to state. I feel for your friend after having been in the exact situation only 4 years ago... Ozzy.
Thanks Ozzy. Yes it seems that my friend's situation is exactly the same holding a first and a second. That was my thing with it being a pvt. company. I will check for her to see if Georgia has something.
Hey thanks Ozz....I looked a lot of homeless resources....i did find capital funding in largo, md that seems a bit more legitimate...thanks for all of your help.
Ozzy - Did you try to work with your mortgage company first? I live in Michigan and we have an FHA mortgage. It's 3-1/2 mos behind as of Jan and our 2nd mortgage is 2 mos behind as of Jan. My husband is now laid off (we've had major job probs that got us into this situation) and I don't think we can make the payment with what I make - my work has not been steady, either. I'm just not sure if whether or not we HAVE to go through our mortgage loss mitigation dept first before we look elsewhere. What did you do? Thanks!
Hey Pammy....we ended up using UCMA....They seem like a pretty good company.I checked the BBB and all....go to http://www.ucma.com and checkout their website. Hope this helps you. Who are your mtgs with? Working with loss mit may help but sometimes their payment plans puts you further at risk for default. Your goal is to really get rid of that second (and never get another one). If UCMA works out, I would continue the credit repair and go for the refi by the summer
Thanks, Kitt! Do you mind me asking what their fee was? Was it totally outrageous? I mean, if we can't afford our payments, how can we pay them? Any info is appreciated! TIA! Pammy
