I have a FORCED AIR HEATER...probably 20+ years old... If we upgrade to A/C and FORCED AIR HEAT and WATER HEATER in one unit (as seen on TV)...HOME IMPROVEMENT SHOWS... Are we talkin' $2,000-$3,000...$5,000???
George, It all depends on how much capacity you need for your home. A 6000 sq ft house usually needs two zones and two 3 ton A-C condensing units. A 3000 sq foot usually needs at least a large 4 ton A/C unit (one zone). If you house is over 1000 sq feet and you are considering central air-conditioning I do not suggest anything smaller than a 3 ton unit. Also what brands are you considering? Trane is the best, but it is a little more expensive than such brands as Carrier, Rudd, or Rheem. Based on you house's capacity and what brand you choose you are probably looking at $3500-5500 dollars. Dani
Hi George. The inlaws installed an new system as you described last summer. It is a 4 ton unit and their home is about 2700sq ft plus 1700 for the basement. They used a Trane system. The vents in the basement are always closed ( they rarely use that space ). Temps in their area are mid 90's to 110's 5mths of the year. The system has no trouble keeping the house cool. Their electric bills are about $95/mth CND more than when they had no A/C.
