Not just a credit repair place that might send dispute letters, etc., but someone who'd actually validate and negotiate a fair settlement (also taking into consideration the tax bite of any 1099 issued), etc. Not just the type who'd dispute derog info.

I realize there are those here who, according to another post, "live, eat, breathe" the quest but, again, I just don't have the time and brainpower it takes and would likely cave and pay whatever these folks want, right or wrong. I'm sure it takes plenty of time back and forth, trying to convince them to delete the derogs or, if not, the tradeline, in exchange for ... what's the standard percentage?

Already made the mistake of paying FUSA in full with the idea that it could be my sole remaining credit card in good standing (as one might reaffirm a debt during-after bankruptcy). FUSA neglected to tell me that they'd already closed my account a month and a half ago (though I can still access it online and they still reflect the old limit as "available credit" post-payment). Tricky bastards! Boy, does it hurt, considering the amount in question (coulda bought a nice car), the interest rate, fees, etc. Dumb, dumb, dumb (she pounds her head against a wall).

Thanks, LB ... HOWEVER, again, what if one does NOT have the time, energy, mental wherewithal to do it by him or herself?

Again ... would a financial planner type be likely to handle it? A plain ol' accountant? Or is there a broad-based service (not a simple dispute-filing law firm service a la Bradley Ross).

    :)

A lot of financial planners and accountants don't know how money works and even less about consumer credit laws.
Most lawyers know little about them either.

*Well I guess you could just throw up your hands do nothing and let the corrupt CRAs amd FICO keep right on screwing you for the rest of your life.

    Fallen,

I recommend fixing you own credit and handling your own settlments/disputes and credit rebuilding.

However, if for one reason or another you do not want to deal with fixing your credit and wanted to pay someone, I would recommend Christine at Bayhouse:

I think most financial planners aren't equipped for stuff like this. They're interested in taxes, investments, insurance, etc.

If you don't want to do it yourself, hire one of the firms to help. Or maybe just get a friend who has some time to write your letters, etc. You could pay them a few bucks for their time. Who knows, you might even get them interested in reading and posting here.

Don't negotiate anything without posting it here first. We'll help you know if you're doing a good thing or not.
