Add HSBC Mortgage to the list of BK-friendly lenders. I closed in August, 3 1/2 years after my Chapter 7 was discharged, on a 30-year FHA loan at 5.375 percent. The only extra requirement because of the BK was a letter explaining why it happened. And the mortgage rep said HSBC would have approved me for a conventional (non-FHA) loan if I had been 4 years past discharge. (I'm not complaining because HSBC's FHA rates were the same as its conventional rates.)

I owe a lot to folks like you, which helped me rebuild my credit after bankruptcy and get my scores into the high 600s. Thanks from a happy homeowner.

(Now if only I could get a halfway-decent bankcard.)

Do a search here using the term FHA mortgage and you'll find a world of threads from people who've gotten conventional rates from FHA. Look at www.fhalibrary.com for more info.
