Hi There, I have a pretty simple problem with which I was hoping someone might be able to advise me. I'll try to keep is short and simple. This is in regards to my girlfriend who is from Brazil. I first met her in Idaho in 1997 and we lived there for a couple of years. She went back to Brazil for a couple of years and then recently returned here to the USA. We just pulled a 3 bureau credit report for her from http://www.privacyguard.com All three bureaus are reporting a Sears account that was opened in September of 1997 that had a balance of $374 and was charged off. It shows that this account was assigned to a collection agency in August of 2001. This is also reflected by all three bureaus. It shows this account as being open. I would like to know what we should do to get this negative information off of her report and since this is the only information on her report, what can we do to bring her scores up as soon as possible? I was wondering how can the account be "open" and "charged off" at the same time? Dispute that as 'not mine' (or not hers) with all 3 bureaus. Then if they verify it you have one more year for it to drop off her reports. Wait 6 months and dispute them again. By then it should drop off her reports & saty off. I would not communicate with the CA in any way. get caller ID. Or if you do decide to communicate with the CA, don't pay the balance off until they committ in writing to delete the item from her reports.
