We're building a home and I have been negotiating a settlement to with a CA for 6 items. 4 are medical, 2 others...most all are close to SOL, but ALL must be paid before I can proceed with my home loan. In the process, the CA is willing to discount the amount, but is refusing to delete. So, if I pay, obviously, they will report as paid collections. My lender states that paid collections are not a deal-killer, but unpaid are... For obvious reasons, I really want to have the items deleted, but the CA is refusing, and for all intent and purposes, I am out of time. The builder is requiring an acceptance letter that the lender will not provide without the items being paid or deleted. What would you do (or have you done)? Thanks!
Several years ago, DH and I were hit with medical problems. When we recouped medically/financially we were stuck with a bunch (over 20) medical accounts turned over to CA's. Some CA's accepted settlement ( with deletion) others would not budge. With the ones that would not budge, I got the OC's involved. Told them I was looking to pay off my debt, but the CA's were being difficult. In one case, I was able to get the OC to call the CA to tell them to accept my settlment, it is after all their money, they have the right to tell the CA what to do (as long as CA did not buy the debt). I then sent a follow-up letter for CA to sign and included a stipulation that the account would not be reported to CRA's and to sign and return and I would send the $$ within two days. I think the above is the quickest way. It took about a week from the time I got the OC involved to the time I had the signed letter from the CA. I then submitted this to EQ and they deleted within a week. TU deleted within two. EXP is another story though. Also, you might be able to use rapid rescore for this situation (assuming you had a letter of deletion). You can also just send the letter out to the CA if OC won't get involved. I found it difficult to get the OC to eventually get involved, but it was worth it. If the first rep. from OC won't help, ask for the supervisor. THis could also take a week or two, assuming CA agrees to settlement and returns the letter. I have also read about HIPPA and medical accounts. I am unfamiliar with this, but you may want to do search about this subject. Hope this helps.
