JP I am glad to be able to provide some assistance to you. It sounds to me as if you probably don't need to wait those 6-8 months you were talking about before looking for a home. As you currently stand, you should be able to qualify for a mortgage just about 1/2 point above normal rates and if you are trying to wait to get "prime" rates, then by the time you are ready, prime rates could be a good 1-1 1/2 points higher than they are now. But in order to give you answers that are specific to your situation, I would need to ask some questions that should not be asked on a public board.
