You think you are past all this junk....and bam!

About a year and a half ago I had a check (drawn on an account I had closed because I thought everything was done clearing!) returned for a whopping $20, which I promptly paid when notified. I later got a bill from this company for $20 which I called them, and was told it was the NSF fee. WHICH I didn't think they could do, so I ignored it and didn't pay the fee.

Yes, it's on my credit now (EXP) as a collection from 6-03. What can I do about this?? Anything? I didn't know that they could charge a fee on a check that was paid? In my opinion adding it to the CR was out of spite. The lazy man's way to collect on top of that.

    Anyone dealt with them?

Yes. Ad nauseum. They are the worst horses a$$es next to NCO. Their lawyer is a liar as well! The only thing I am grateful about is that this is about to age off my bureau!
These arseholes have 2 coll's on my EX. One for $41, one for $85. Both were IIB, but they refused to note that until last year. EX refuses to delete and yet, these still show a past due amount. They are hostile beyond belief and wouldn't know the FDCPA if they tripped over the dang book!
I would use that new law in CO to try to nail these turds. I am now in FL so it is a bit more difficult for me.

The bottom line is: can they really collect a fee on a check that's cleared??
