    I went to Amex and logged in. There it says "welcome LKH" Special cardmember offer.
    It then gives me the option to add another person as an authorized user with an "accept preapproval" button.

    Then below that, it says "explore and find out more about cards that can make your current cardmembership even better".
    When I go to check out different cards, there is an accept preapproval button on each and every card I have looked at. Does this mean they have preapproved me for those cards?

    I don't think so, though I can't say for sure. I read on this board that you should accept the pre-approval listed on the first page, and not the one(s) on the second page as those pre-approvals aren't real.

    Any idea what happens if you click on it? I don't want to click if it is an automatic hard inquiry.

    Hi LKH! Hard inquiries - unless they pop you a specific screen (for the Platinum Charge) for example.

    I had a bad experience with those "accept" messages - they run a check.

    Marci is right. The second page is not a real pre-approval.

    Last time I tried to accept the pre-approval on the second page, I was directed to a "simplified" application form.

    They are not real "pre-approvals." They will direct you to an app. form and check your credit (hard inquiry.)

    I accepted one of these pre-approvals and got denied. Amex thought that they had extended me enough credit with my existing Blue account. The option they offered was to transfer some of my credit line off of my "Blue" onto the card I wanted, Skymiles.

    Sent a scathing letter, called the exec. office, PFB'd then. Zilch, nada, nothing. Despite years of perfect payment history and a real pre-approval for Platinum charge card (I think they wanted the $395.)

    What ticked me off about the process was the "pre-approval" button. I think it's misleading, considering that every other pre-approval I've gotten from Amex (Green, Blue and Gold) were real.

    IT SAYS "ACCEPT PRE-APPROVAL"...you ASSUME you are going to get the AMEX DELTA GOLD and the PLAT CASH BACK...and are DENIED BOTH!!!

    The only Amex card I got denied was the Plat cash back card with a XPN score of 762, it was approved after a phone called the next day.

    This is my Amex collections now.....
    Although I'm beginning to be like Ron, but paid a high price. LOL!!!

    Plat Charge
    Gold Charge
    Plat Cash Rebate
    Gold Delta
    Plat Starwood
    Blue
    Secured Optima
    LOC---> Don't know if "closed" yet?

    All acct. generated a HARD no matter pre-approved or invitation, even asking a cl will cost you a HIT.....

    Compare AMEX with MBNA:
    AMEX 8 accts---> 9 INQ.
    MBNA 1 acct---> 8 INQ.( asked for 1 increase )
    BTW, I think MBNA is "worst" than FUSA!!!
