my mother in law has two Credit Card accounts that she is an"authorized user" on. Her daughter is the one who the cards belong to. The daughter wants to file BK. How will this affect my mother in laws credit bureau??Do the accounts just disappear or is she also responsible for the accounts since she help charge them to the limits?
The authorized user must dispute that these accounts are not hers. Joint accounts are both thier responosibilty but AU accounts are the responsibilty of the primary carsd holder. I disputed AU accounts with the CA's and they removed these accounts from my report. If they are not removed then they will show as inlcuded in bk. The best thing to do is make sure she is not legally responsible. I am new here but I did recently deal with this b/c my sister and my dad have filed for bk.
Call right now and cancel the cards as an "AU"... An "AU" has NO CONTRACTUAL RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY. Have them REMOVE the accounts from the credit reports...if they are NOT removed...DISPUTE WITH THE CRA'S "NOT MINE, PLEASE REMOVE"
