Hi there. A couple of weeks ago I got a letter from a CA asking for $184 for a Dish Network account that I used to have. I never received anything from Dish Network and didn't know that I owed them anything. If I do owe them I don't have a problem paying them the $$$ but I don't want this showing up on my CR's. Just wondering what I should do here. If I dispute with the CA can they still ding my credit report with this? Should I call Dish Network directly or dispute with CA then contact Dish directly? I've worked in the past on cleaning derogs off of my report but haven't had to deal with a CA asking for money but not reporting to any of the CRA's (yet)... not sure how I should handle this one.

    TIA for any advice!

    Cheers,
    Kirk

Well after I was done with my cleanup, I got a letter from a ca regarding a medical bill which should have been paid by the insurance co., an HMO that is no longer around. It was only about $100. I called and asked them if they had reported it to the cra's. They said no, it wouldn't be reported for 30 days and if I paid it before 30 days, they would not report it. I asked if they would fax that statement to me and that if they did, I would call back as soon as I got it and pay them. I got the fax, paid it and it has been more than 9 months and hasn't showin up.

This may not work this time, but it may.You could tell them you don't believe you owe it, but if they will fax you a statement, you will pay it to be done with it. If they refuse, then send a validation letter and make them prove it.

But only do this if you believe that you might owe it and are willing to pay.
