Exp. & charge off Hi all...I'm new! Anyway, I disputed an unpaid charge-off on my Exp. CR and it came back on July 3 as "to remain". I called Exp. and asked for the contact info from the company (Dillards) and Exp. said, no conact info, just that on July 3 it came back to them as "to remain". Interestingly, it says on my CR that it was "Updated" but the last date of 'verification' is 5/2001. I was concerned because I cancelled my Credit Expert on July 3 and the three pending investigations came back as "to remain" . I asked Exp. about it and they said that Credit Expert has nothing to do w/ my report (Yeah, I'm paranoid =)) The yucky thing about it is that this charge off account belongs to an ex boyfriend, that I believed I was an authorized user on, but apparently, it is a joint account. I tried to get my name off the account in 1997 but they said he would have sign me off (absolution?) The account went to charge off status in 5/2000, long after the end of our relationship. Dillards is investigating, trying to pull the original credit agreement. The woman said that if they can't find the original application, then they would have to remove me. Here's hoping! Anything else I should do? Any advice to the newbie would be much appreciated! Thanks Purrkitty
Re: Exp. & charge off Sigh...no one likes the new girl... =) Maybe I shouldn't have requested Dillards try to locate the original credit agreement from 1995? If I had known that the ex was having problems paying I would have done SOMETHING to prevent a charge off. Unfortunately, I was never contacted by anyone about this, seeing as we haven't spoken in 5 years. Stupid me. Should I fax them another letter asking them to stop the investigation? Just requested the investigation on Friday. Here is what I said: I am faxing this letter of dispute regarding Dillards charge account number ######, which was opened in March of 1995. I am asking you to pull the original credit application because, to the best of my recollection, I do not remember signing up for the above mentioned account as a joint account holder with Mr. Ex-Boyfriend Permit me to explain: I was involved in a relationship with Mr. Ex-Boyfriend at the time he opened this charge account. The saleswoman who opened the account asked if he would like to have a card for me to use as an authorized user, at no extra charge. He agreed and I was listed on the application. I donâ??t recall signing the application as a joint account holder. I certainly donâ??t remember the saleswoman explaining that it would be a joint account. As such, I am requesting that the original credit application/agreement be obtained so that this can be clarified. At the end of our relationship, in 1996 or early 1997, I attempted to get my name removed from the account but was told that Mr. Ex-Boyfriend would have to initiate such a change. Unfortunately, Mr. Ex-Boyfriend did not respond to my requests. Attached to this fax are photocopies of my social security card and driverâ??s license. I respectfully request that my contact information be kept confidential. I truly appreciate how helpful and pleasant you were on Thursday. If you need more information from me, please donâ??t hesitate to contact me. Again, thank you for your assistance.
Re: Exp. & charge off I don't understand why you would want them to stop the investigation if you were an authorized user only. Assuming that is the case, they will will have to delete the info from the cra's. Chances are that they will not be able to find an app. from 1995, so I wouldn't worry about. Let them look, then delete it.
Re: Exp. & charge off Thanks for the reply! The problem is that I could be wrong about the AU. Dillards told me the only way I could be an AU is if he had added me after he established the account. I was there with him, and they say that would make me a co-applicant. So, its that I *thought* I was an AU. Live and learn, I guess.
Re: Exp. & charge off Oops, nevermind, I saw where you said you don't recall. If they can't produce you're signature, you should get it deleted. Don't take it personally if you don't get replies right away on a weekend, things move a bit slow on weekends Gib
