Account which is not mine

    Hi everyone,

I was recently turned down for credit because of a deliquent account. I pulled my reports and the account was Fingerhut which I know was not mine. I called Fingerhut and after they checked my SSN against the account, I was told that is was not my account and to go ahead and dispute it with the the CRA's. Well I did. I just got results from Experian. They are telling me that I am an authorized user and Fingerhut will not remove the account. I explained to the rep that I am definitely not on any Fingerhut account and was told by Fingerhut to dispute the account as not mine. She said that she is submitting it for investigation again.

Is there anything else I can do? As you can imagine I am very upset about this and I am assuming that the other CRA's are going to have similar results.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the world of Experian... who as you have found out, doesn't really verify "not mine" disputes half of the time.

You could call Fingerhut and ask that they fax you a letter for your records stating the account is not yours, then fax or mail the letter to Experian. It might help.

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the response.

I might also add that I never received a phone call or letter regarding this account being past due. The first I heard of it was when I got the letter from Experian saying I was turned down for credit because of a deliquent account. I guess I am in for some fight.
