SORRY FOR THE MULTIPLE POSTS!! I was informed by a cell phone company that I have to put down a hefty deposit because my credit report shows a collection from another cell company. I requested credit reports from all three CRAs but no collection shows on any of them. My question is: how can they report information to a creditor/business that does not show on any report? I subsequently called all three CRAs; each reported that no such bad account exists. What gives? Anyone have insight?
Interesting. I've heard of "hidden files" before (which is an FCRA violation). I would wait until you get the decline letter from the phone company. They will tell you which report they pulled from, and that will help you pin it down. Another option - do you see the inquiry they pulled from any of your reports?
After checking with the 3 major CRAs & finding nothing, I spent most of an hour on the phone with the wireless carrier trying to find out what info they used to require a large deposit. I was finally transferred to dispute line of Profile Screening Service which is, apparently, a "fourth" CRA. I was advised to request a copy of my report via snail mail. For those interested, contact info is: Profile Screening Service PMB 243 738 Main Street Waltham, Mass 02451-0624 1-800-847-2444 I'm requesting a report from them. Interestingly enough, none of the three credit reports showed an inquiry from the wireless phone company until AFTER I was told about the deposit , questioned them on it, and asked them to run it through again. After they ran it through the "real" credit bureaus, my deposit was reduced substantially, but not removed entirely. Still working on it . . . kadabujack
Profile Screening Service which is, apparently, a "fourth" CRA. Inovis is the 4Th. Cra so this one would be a 5Th.CRA. The END ************************* LB 59

Interestingly, there is only one reference to "Profile Screening Service" at YAHOO.com, but no web site of their own that I can find. Here's some interesting information that I did find, though: http://www.complaints.com/november2002/complaintoftheday.november29.3.htm Buckets
