I've asked my brother who has good credit and owns a business to add me as an authorized user so I can help build my credit back up. A couple of questions: will my bad credit affect his at all by adding me, and are business credit accounts any better than personal as far as helping a credit score?
Your bad credit will not affect his. Your history will never show up on his credit report. If his business cards are actually in his name and not the name of the business then it shouldn't matter.
Actually, because it is a business card it probably won't report on your credit reports (unless the account was delinquent at one point).
you should have your sister in law do some research on this board. she'll learn that your brother's credit will not be affected by your previous history. all he has to do is request for you to be added as an AU, then when he gets the card, simply cut it up or put it away. that way you'll benefit from his good payment history and he (and she) won't have to worry about you racking up a bunch of charges on his card. it won't cost them a dime.
Lisa is right on. And so is Apex--if it's really a business card it may not be reporting. He needs to add you to a personal card.
I wish I could She blasted off a nasty condescending e-mail to me that has now affected my relationship with my brother. I wish she would read this board but some people think they already know it all.
