I started looking on my credit report, and while I have moved around a bit, I see like 3 addresses that I have NEVER lived at. What do I do about having these deleted? I am sure that these are bringing down my credit score.
Addresses supposedly don't affect your score. It is an identifying factor though. I always dispute addresses by phone, and sometimes the addresses are gone the next day. Charlie
Do NOT ever request a deletion of an address by phone. Do it in writing, certified rrr,of ALL the id fraud and theft "trojan horses" address changes lead the list.
I'm not sure I understand your post, care to elaborate? I mean I know why certified mail would hold some advantage, but what's this of trojan horses?
I've deleted address'(with all 3 CRA's, even address I just moved from 2 years ago!) over the phone and they were deleted in about 2 hours. It's your choice: $4.10 or a FREE 800 number!
I called to dispute mine and they came right off. The reason why address are reported on your report are because some creditor is associating some debt with it. Simply call the CRA, ask to have the address removed. If they give you trouble, ask what creditor is reporting it. If it's some creditor you've never heard of, then that should raise a flag that fraud may be in play. If they can't come up with a creditor, they remove it. Just try and write back and let us know your results.
Identity thieves plant false information, frequently by phone, they start with addresses, then call back to give the current address. If they see no objection has been made, they will use the "old address" to make applications for credit cards etc.after changing it (again by phone) to a po box. IF the CRA has ONLY records of telephone changes, they will not get caught. If you MAIL any changes or corrections, along with instructions that they should not accept telephone changes, you will protect yourself from id theft.
I appreciate your concern. You have a valid point, but I had most all addresses I disputed removed TODAY over the phone. I was looking for speed this time rather than security. I am moving soon, and will send my changes of address via certified mail.
and with that I have found out someone else might be using my ssn. NOW I'm beginning to see the light here. Thank you again.
