Hi All! This is the best board on the Internet that has all the knowledge needed to successfully repair your credit. Hoping you can guide me in the right direction now. I like others did not run across this website until after I started my credit repair. Help!! My situation: Ordered all 3 credit reports in November 2003. I have a Judgment that was filed In Maryland on 2/2003. These were past dues owed to a condominium association. I had relocated to SC in 2000, and was renting the property. I was responsible for paying the fees, but due to the loss of employment was unable to keep up the payments. Long story short: I paid the debt off and sold the property. This was investigated and verified on my first attempt by the 3 agencies. Am I doomed to wait seven years for this to fall off? Can I request to have all old addresses removed? Anyone ever had a judgment removed? Thanks for your help. How would you handle collection accounts that have been paid off? I have 2 paid accounts: Bell South, $115; originated: 9/2001 Sent to collection: 1/2003 This account was paid off. Should I reinvestigate as not mine? Can this be removed? Similar to above: Duke Power, $164 originated: 10/2001 Sent to collection: 7/2003 What now?
I understand that some people have been lucky enough to get a judgment removed from their credit report by just disputing it as "not mine" but that is very rare. Judgments are a matter of public record at your local courthouse and even though they can't be reported for more than 7 years in most cases, they will remain as a part of your public record forever unless you can get them removed from your public record by having them sealed or removed after you pay them or by getting the judgment vacated for some reason. One way is to pay the judgment and get the plaintiff's attorney to agree to have it vacated after you pay it. Some attorneys will do that and others won't.
Thanks for your prompt rely and advice. I paid the judgment off in 7/2003. I was wondering if writing a letter to the Condo Association requesting the remove the entry since the debt has been paid in full. You're saying perhaps sending a letter to the collection ageny instead? Thanks.

I paid the judgment off in 7/2003 ========================= Did you pay the OC or the CA? NEW MEMBERS READ THIS. http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&postid=410243#post410243 ************************************************************
You would have to contact whoever the plaintiff is and see if they would be so kind as to have their attorney do it. You would probably have to pay the attorney something to get it done. The easy way might be to just contact the attorney, offer to pay him any of his expenses and have him do it. He would probably want to contact his client to see if they have any objection to his removing it.
aafemale - welcome to the board! First let me say this: Kaykay - I am of the opinion that you should be forthright and at least place in your sig line that YOU are a CA (collection agent). I'm not getting into any of the rest of the dispute of your being here and guesses or motives or comments. But it's only fair for those reading your posts to know that you might have a biased opinion in your information. aafemale: Recently I discovered that you can contact the circuit court of where the judgment is and ask for a "Motion to Set Aside". My understanding is that if it's a paid judgment, it's quite likely that they will agree to this. Shanyl
I understand where you are coming from but I don't collect any consumer debt so I'm not your average CA. In fact, I dislike the average CA as much as most folks on this and other forums do. The reason is that if they do dirty deeds and mistreat people they hurt the collection industry badly and are a disgrace to it. Those kinds need to be put out of business by whatever means allowable under the law and the general public needs to be educated as to their rights so as not to fall prey to the buzzards of the collection indusrty. So helping to educate people who are harmed by those who operate outside the law is my only goal, motive or reason for being here.
Thanks ljbrown59 and Shanyl for responding. Yes, both the court and collection agency are listed. I believe I paid the court directly. I now live in SC and this happened in Maryland. So I should file the Motion in Maryland and send it certified mail? Also, what do you suggest for the 2 collection agencies? A nutcase letter for both? Thanks. You guys are awesome and so knowledgable. I'm reading as many posts as I can so I can buy a house next year. aafemale Knowledge is power ...
Call the circuit court in Maryland and ask them what they require for you to file a motion to set aside. It may be that it has to be done in person, maybe not. If so, you can probably hire a paralegal in Maryland to do it at less cost than an attorney. Shanyl
Thanks for the advice. Got be to thinking ... I work for a law firm in SC. Maybe can get some insight from one of the paralegals on my job. I'm on it tomorrow. Thanks again. I value everyone's thoughts and opinions. aafemale Knowledge is power ...
Well, wish me luck. I'm sending off some 6 goodwill letters tomorrow, and 5 Nutcase. Depending on the response, if not successful, what do you suggest next? I haven't contacted the credit bureau yet. Thanks, aafemale Knowledge is power
Re: Re: Advice...2nd Time Credit Repair Well I haven't gotten any responses yet to the letters I sent out. I logged onto Lexis yesterday, and was shocked to see my judgement is tied to a SC address where I lived 2 years ago. So now I'm trying to figure out how to dispute this SC address. I need to remove old addresses but this is now a dilemma. Suggestions?? Thanks to all. aafemale Knowledge is power
Re: Re: Re: Advice...2nd Time Credit Repair Update ... Received replies from 2 goodwill letters I sent out on 6/30. Credit Management reply.... "our client has informed us that your account has been paid in full. We have notified the credit bureau of your payment and have asked them to update your account. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact CMI at ...." Ok guys this is where I need your input. I was hoping for a removal from credit report. How do I proceed now? Second letter was sent to the condo association. Their reply .... We have received your letter of 6/30 regarding the Judgement still being reported on your credit history. Please be aware M...Condo Assoc. obtained the judgement against you not Cxxx Inc. The attorney for M.. Condominium is xxx. We are sure it was an oversight on their part, not filing a Line of Satisfaction for the Judgement. We are forwarding your letter and a copy of this letter to the law firm of xxx to ask them to please a Line of Satisfaction on that judgement and send all correspondence to you in SC. Sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced. Should you have further questions, please contact xxx at .... How does a line of satisfaction affect my credit report? Should I contact the attorney and ask for removal? I am totally at a loss with this one. I really appreciate all the feedback and support everyone is giving. I'm about to dispute old addresses and this is tied to an old SC address. What direction should I go now? Thanks. aafemale Knowledge is Power
