I sent a DV to Asset Acceptance for a TL on all 3 CRAs regarding a lease I had in 2002 that I terminated early. I negotiated out of the lease 1 moth early and a year later I ended up seeing $4,100 on my credit report for this. Regardless, I was young and dumb back in 2002 and thought if I forgot about it , it would just go away. A smarter me is now taking care of all my prior irresponsibilities. I woke this one up with Asset Acceptance with a call requesting information, followed by a DV letter sent USPS CMRR. I got a one liner back with the amount I owed and my name, clearly not a validation. I sent a second DV on 5/16 requesting detailed DV and have not heard back. I'm approaching the 15 days I gave them to respond. Next steps on this? - send Asset Acceptance another letter? what type of letter? - dispute TL with all 3 CRAs? (should I do this online? or by USPS CMRR w/ the copies of my 2 DVs to Asset Acceptance?) Also - on another stupidity - this one is credit card debt charged off in 1999 -- I got woken up by a collection letter here in Chicago with a letter from what appeared to be a local law firm. I sent a DV letter and it's been over 30 days with no response. What should I do if a CRA / Law Firm doesn't respond to a DV? I just bought a home , got a great mortgage with Wells Fargo at 6.5% 30yr fixed rate, I'm learning now how important credit and responsibility is. I want to re-fi in the next 6 months to get rid of PMI and get a better rate. Thanks for the advice!
