I have a Delta Airlines Skymiles AMEX that I've had for several years. Its been a good card for me and has an excellent history. I'd love to get the APR down and my credit limit up. I contacted "R" and "CS" and neither could drop my rate below the already "lowest" rate of 12.9% and "couldn't" raise my limit because it had been less than 6 months since my last increase. Neither would offer me a card with a lower rate, the "best" that CS could offer me was the Optima Charge Card...whoopty do. Any suggestions on how to get the rate down and the limit up?

Only worry about the CREDIT LIMIT GOING UP!!!

Don't worry about the interest rate...I WOULDN'T CARE IF THEY CHARGED 82.99% INTEREST...BECAUSE I MUST PAY IN FULL 100% OF THE TIME!!!

If you pay interest...YOUR COST PER MILE GOES WAY UP even at 12.90%!!!
It is bad enough that you have to pay $85.00 per year...(DELTA GOLD)

    Mine is at 14.24%

My card doesn't have an annual fee....Its just the standard Skymiles. currently 5k credit line and 12.9 percent

1/2 MILE PER $1.00 CARD THEN...

It is still EXPENSIVE to pay interest on ANY REWARD CARD...even a FREE one.

They are serious about waiting six months between line increases. There really is no way around it, sorry.

Similarly, the interest rates on their rewards card will not go below the 12.9% that you have (which is a good rate for the Skymiles card).

If you want a rewards card for a lower rate, you may consider applying for a Blue card (where you can join MR Options for free) and qualify for as low as 7.99% fixed.

Re: Re: advice on AMEX Skymiles card

Being in a rewards program really doesn't concern me, at the time I got the card it was the same interest rate I had on my other card and i had the "benefit" of rewards. Is there any type of BDD that I can get to bump the limit on my current card? Or roll this card into one with a lower rate? If I'm unsatisfied will I just have to apply for a card with a lower rate? The rate isn't a huge concern I pay it off when I use it and currently have a $0 balance, but If I'm going to bother keeping a card I want to have rate I'm willing to use if I need it.

Re: Re: Re: advice on AMEX Skymiles card

You can apply for any AmEx credit card (i.e. Blue or Optima series), ask for an immediate CL increase on that card upon opening w/i 30 days (talk with new accounts), and then close that card and move the line to your Skymiles card within this 6 month period.

You aren't going to get a cheaper rate on the Skymiles card. You will get one on either the Blue card (as low as 7.99%) or the Optima Platinum card (as low as Prime + 2.9%, I think).

You need to do this through MORE, btw. Search for "direct to r" for the number.

It is a moot point, since I never carry a balance (just accumulate & accumulate miles) but a Delta rep just told me that I have the absolute lowest rate that Delta offers on the Platinum skymiles-- 14.24%

    Are they lying to me?

    I would like to know.

    Thanks

My Hilton Hhonors is 14.24%. I think 12.9% on the Skymiles card is incredible.

12.9 has got to be the delta options card apples and oranges 1 mile for every 2 dollars spent no annual fee.

I just checked the Amex website and sure enough
    it says:
The APR for Purchases and Cash Advances is 14.24%and 19.24% respectively as of 04/01/03. The APRs may vary and are determined monthly by adding 9.99% and 12.99% to the Prime Rate (Prime) for Purchases and Cash Advances, respectively.

    14.24 is the best available.

On another matter-- anyone else having trouble getting their promised medallion miles? (the ones that count toward elite status that you get as a spending bonus)

I'm not sure which skymiles card it is, I got it when Delta and AMEX first teamed up. Its just a "plain" card from all I can tell. The mileage I'm supposed to get on it is never correct I don't even bother fighting it. Its not worth the time to me. I'm just going to transfer any remaining balances I might have on any of my cards to my Bank One Prime for life or my 0% introductory MBNA platinum.

convert the card to a cash rebate card. Those carry 3.9% for life bt's with 0% for 6 month intro, if they still offer them..
