The company to whom the debt is owed has a balance of $35 and it is reporting that way on my credit report. I called them and wanted to pay it, they said I had to pay the collection company. This debt is from 1996, so it's pretty old. However, I called the collection company and they told me the debt was $56.13 because of interest, although it does not state that on my credit report and they would not take $35 as payment. I told them thanks for their time and hung up. Now what? Why can't I pay the $35 to original company? I live in PA.

TRY THIS...if you can get the "ORIGINAL" account #...send a check for $35.00 (to the original company) if they cash it...get a copy of the check...PAID PROOF, the CA is "OUT OF THE LOOP"

Some companies just have a payment processing center that does 1,000's of checks every day...they PROBABLY would NOT REJECT your payment...if they do, all you lost was an envelope and a stamp.
