I need advice on how to proceed against a utility company.

I had an overdue bill with an electric utility company. I did not know there was any outstanding debt and the company issued the electric bill on the last month of service to a home that I was renting. My wife and I were of the opinion that we were all paid up with the utility.

Now fast forward 9 months â?¦. we see that a negative credit line was placed on my Experian credit file. I contacted the utility company to investigate the credit entry and they said that I indeed owed them a last payment for charges that occurred before we moved. I told them I had no problem paying and would have paid right away if they had sent me a bill (no bill was ever sent or forwarded to our new address even though other mail was forwarded to us â?? they just never sent a bill).

I told them I wanted the negative tradeline â??deletedâ? from my credit file if I paid them in full and they said they would do that. I requested that they fax me a letter stating that they would delete the tradeline and they said they would.

What I got was a letter that said they would â??correctâ? the tradeline and that was part of their â??standard practiceâ?. I called them back and talked with the same representative and she said she was told by her legal department that she could not change the letter and should not have sent the first one.

I have since paid off the debt and even received a letter showing that there is no balance but they have not modified the tradeline.

I paid off the debt last February but the trade line has charge-offs on 4-2003, 3-2003, 1-2003, 9-2002 and it indicated that the information was verified on 5-2003 (this month) even though I have a letter from them dated February 2003 that shows full payment.

They led me to believe that the tradeline would be deleted but instead have added more charge-offs AND it still says I have a balance.

Iâ??ve disputed the entry twice with the CA but they validated it both times.

I have a letter saying they will correct my trade line and another letter showing that I have no outstanding balance.

How do I get them to delete the negative tradeline? (Sorry this is so long)

You could try the nutcase series for paid collections.

Or you could skip that and go straight to ITS. Have they marked it in dispute? They are willfully reporting inaccurate information, and you have a letter to prove it.

Have you applied for credit and been denied?

I'll try to educate myself on the Nutcase series of letters.

    What is ITS?

Nothing is or has been marked in dispute for this tradeline.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks ...
