Earlier this year I received a notice from RMA that I owed them for a debt to MCI that I don't ever recall owing...after wasting some time, this is what I did:

    1.I sent them a validation letter-no response

2.After 35 days I sent a second letter(I used the ones posted here under sample letters) giving them 15 days to respond.

    3.Then I disputed with EQ-they deleted

What do I do next? The 15 days are not up yet, but what do I do when they are if I still have no response?

    Thanks

I was in the exact same boat as you (same MCI b.s.). Every time I sent them a validation letter, I would call to follow up and they would claim that they never got it even though it was SIGNED FOR! Finally I got the name of a supervisor and a fax number and sent the letter (with a printout from Fed/Ex proving the the letters were signed for) to them. Then called back and they stated that my account was being sent BACK to MCI and that their listing on my report (was only on EFX) would be deleted. I waited 2 months and NOTHING! So I called and this time spoke w/ the supervisor (Ms. White) directly. Maybe you can do a search on this board, I've posted this story before. Long story short, I was polite to her, explained how I just wanted to settle this once and for all and now I KNOW that this debt isn't mine (ex roommate screwed me) and she deleted it right then and there and said that the next time the Bureaus updated their tapes, that it would be gone. She was true to her word....it was gone less than a month later.

I'm not sure what RMA office you were dealing with but the one I was dealing with was in North Augusta, SC. I can give you the name and fax number to send correspondence to????

Wait! You said they EFX deleted it? Then why are you worried??? If it has been deleted then what probably happend is that they sent your account BACK to MCI. DANG...I need to start wearing my glasses!

......putting on glasses as we speak!

    Thanks MP!

    Yes also in Augusta!

I just don't want it to show up on the report again now that it has been deleted, ya know?

    Thanks

Question for you both (currently disputing this same thing RMA/MCI):

Was the amount that they claim owed legit? They actually sent me a word printout of what they claim I owed (that I have the cancelled check for) yet the amount that they are shaking me down for is about 40$ more.....

I don't know...they have never sent me anything other than "you owe us this amount" No detailed listing or anything. It was for $200+ and I don't know many people that I would call long distance, and no one I would talk to for that long!

They never sent me anything either. Just collection notices and every one they sent, I responded to via FED/EX.

I know their claim was legit...meaning SOMEONE owed the money but I know that it was fraud due to the address they had on file. When me and a former roommate parted ways, she moved to the address that they had on file.

I faxed my letters that I sent them and the proof to:

    Supervisor: Cheryl White
    Fax #: 803-442-9117

When I called to get this settle for the final time, I was transfered to Ms. Kay and her number is:
    800-477-1827 x 614

She is the one that said that SHE is the only one authorized to remove accounts and update credit bureaus.
