On May 27th hubby tried to use his brand new Target Visa card AT Target, it wouldn't go thru and the 800# biatch said we needed to fax over DL, SS Card and utility bill right then and there (yeah we were in the store).

We get home and hubby calls up yelling at them, how embarassing yadda yadda yadda. He then says Fine close my account.

Couple hours AFTER that I go to Target.com to see if it would work there.I order 2 items, goes thru no problem.

June 1st I get one of the 2 items, I check the "confirmation email" target sent and the item will arrive by June 3rd.

Fast forward to today, still no second item, but I receive a letter from RNB sent to our old address (we moved 2 months ago and the CRA's can't get it straight) anyway the letter says we have closed your account at your request on May 27th, 2002. As of the date of this letter (which is May 28th) your balance is $0.

The shipping bill for the 1 item we received says ordered 5/27/02 billed 5/27/02, shipped to our new address and BILLED to our new address, BUT RNB had his old address on the app., and on file.

Have you followed? We don't NEED the second item, but i wonder where it went, however should I embarass RNB the way they did hubby and dispute the charge all together claiming fraud? The total for BOTH items is $109. for the one we got it is $40.

Basically should we say we never ordered anything?

Don't cheat them. Target and RNB have been good to many Creditnetters.

    Joe-
I value your opinion, but they haven't been good to THIS creditnetter.

I had a similar problem with Target that was resolved.

I got my target store card last fall and immediately charged over the Internet. I paid the bill in full the next month.

In February I charged an item for under $10 and the system would not let the transaction proceed. The sales rep, called the supervisor over. The supervisor made the store rep call the 800 number on my card and the rep in the store got a customer service rep on the line. The customer service rep made the store rep read my drivers license number to the customer service rep. Then all was well.

I think they may put a block on you account for in store purchases until you show ID.

    Erik-
Hubby spoke directly to the rep over the phone AT the store and hubby had asked if he could show his DL and SSCard and the rep said no.

    THAT'S why I feel screwed.

I have had a Target Guest Card for about 8 months. I used it for the first time last November. When I first used it it wouldn't go through the clerk had to call the 800 # for approval. I was very embarrased but what the heck I gave them the benefit of the doubt and held my temper.

Last week I went to Target and attempted to use the card again. Same thing happened (boy was I pissed). I told the clerk to forget about the Target card and put my purchase on another card. The next day I called the 800# on the back of the card and gave the CSR an earfull (I know not her fault). She put a supervisor on who explained that when you open an account with Target over the internet (Target Guest or Target Visa), the first 4-6 times you use it the store clerk will have to call to get approval for the purchase. She said that it was to prevent fraud. Blah Blah Blah, I told her that this was embarassing and unacceptable. She removed the code on my account, now I only have to show my license at time of purchase. I don't mind doing that in fact I think everyone should do it.

I was approved for my Target Visa over the internet and I have never had any problems and no one has ever had to call on it. I think they're yanking your chain.

They could be. We'll see what happens next time I try and use the card.

I'm not sure what the rules are concerning the Target "Guest Card" But I do know that Visa forbids merchants from asking for ID when they are presenting one of their cards. Therefore if this is happening I would let them know.

    Thanks

Here's my main problem is the dates, he closed it then a matter of hours later he was able to pruchase using that card AND a different mailing and billing address, than the one RNB has on file. They allowed the purchase to go through AND allowed delivery on a closed card.

This is NOT preventing fraud, it's helping it

Not to be rude or disrespectful, but if you closed the account, why would you bother to try to use it after you closed it? I just keep thinking that's similar to using a check from a checking account you just closed.

As the one the fastest growing creditors, (remember x.com) they are probably getting bombed with fraud as well.

I activated my account, went to use the card, had to call in, activate it again.

Oh well. Target has never been a "classy" store , so i don't have much for expectations from any of their service. Don't get me wrong, i love the two-story target down here, nothings more fun than pushing the cart up the escalator..

but I don't expect the kind of service, that I would expect from some other retailers..

applied online....received card in mail with $700 limit. Card has sticker where I had to call from my home phone to activate before using.

Have since used it at Burger Shop/Gas Station/ grocery store/to pay city water bill...total of about $300 in transactions ranging from $5 to $200. (paying off in full on the 20th prior to due date)

no problem with credit card being run through any of these processes...not asked for ID of any sort.

However, I have not yet presented for use at an actual Target store...Y'all are making me very leery of using it there/???

The first time I used my Target guest card, they had to call in and check my ID. However, it's been very smooth since then.

Never had a problem with the guest card. The first time I tried to use the Visa card at a store it was declined.Called Target when I got home and the rep said they needed more information and I told her she has all the info she needs. She asked me if I have any other MC or Visa accounts, and the credit limits of the accounts-like she didn't already know. I said Citi-MC-15000 limit and that was the end of it. No problems since.

    Ozzy-
Cause my husband had questioned the rep as to why he couldn't charge on a card that was his (because they didn't believe he was really him) but he could close someone's account that MIGHT not be his (according to them).

sorta kinda, we were making sure they actually closed it. Hubby said the woman was "Yes"ing him to death and kept butting in with "is there anything else".

We were just making sure the did what they said they were gonna do.
