American Express sent me an invitation to join... It's Pretty shocking since I've, been a customer with them over 7 years, and NEVER missed a payment.. Should I join or not??

The annual fee for Black use to be $1000 but I read recently AMEX increased it to $2500.

If you can afford the annual fee go for it. I have their Business Platinum Card where I pay $300 annually. I get so many perks I love it! I recently stayed at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.. By booking with a travel agent and paying with Platinum I automatically get upgraded to the next best room AND get a 4pm checkout. What does VISA do for their card members? :)

In my early 20's I was doing a lot of traveling.. Most car rental places require you to be 25 to rent or pay a hefty fee for their higher risk. American Express Platinum has an agreement with Hertz which lowers the age requirement to 18, and I got a special Platinum discount on my car rental. Normally a convertible was roughly $65 a day to rent. Being 21, no extra fees I was able to get my convertible for $38 a day. I was renting at least once a month for a week at a time. With the money I saved paid for Platinum. The only catch with Hertz is you must be a Hertz #1 Gold member BUT American Express gives you the membership for free! A $50.00 value!

well is that is the case people could go for the platinum card with 300 anual fee instead to pay 2500 for a black card.

As I said i wouldn't pay even $300 for a card. But if u travel a lot and need to use hotels, maybe could worth it (the plat card).
