Last night I got a letter from AFNI, the first for me although almost everyone else I know has gotten one... It was for a phone number that I had almost 9 years ago, and that I remember paying in full. The SOL has long since expired, even if it wasn't paid... I fire off a letter and call AFNI to get a fax number. The rudest person I've ever spoken to said, "we can collect on it no matter how many years has passed, we just can't report it." She then asked me for the account number and I just said, "can I have your fax number or not?" She SIGHED at me, actually SIGHED. She finally gave up the fax number though. I decided that I hate her. Anyhoo, I feel like renting a billboard that says, "Attention consumers: If you receive a bill from AFNI, Inc DON'T PAY IT. IT'S ALL LIES!"
We can collect it . . . you can just stop us from calling or writing to you and we can't put it on reports. So, how can they really collect? I suppose in their minds they still can.
This bill just really shows me how pathetic AFNI is... the bill is for $38.75. I remember paying my final phone bill for $21.16. (why I remember the number, heaven only knows, but I do...). So they are obviously just finding these old accounts, making them for some small amount so the consumer might just pay it to get rid of it, without taking the time to research it... but I'm not your average someone. As of now, it's not on my credit report. I almost hope they do report it just so I can sue them. I wasn't always so readily litigious. This board is my inspiration.
Do as Collectman suggests . . . it is sound advice. Anderson Financial is a garbage pail company to be certain.
