Re: Re: After payment???? Really? Is it in New Jersey? And merlin brings up another good point, you need to check your state's laws about the ability to renew.
Re: Re: After payment???? The OP already stated "Also it is only reported on one report, TU. The others know nothing about it. I was declined rental recently and thats what brought it to my attention. This has not come up in the 3 years it has been on my report." Just trying to "rent" did not work for him because of this TL.
Re: Re: After payment???? Your best bet is what the others here on the board suggested. Check your LOCAL laws for the timeframe regarding your judgment. You then can decide if you NEED to pay this thing off or not. You already know that this TL is hurting your chances of renting and I am sure it would need to be taken care of if you wish to buy. So once you find out the timeframe for this debt you will be able to decide what action you need to take (if any) Good Luck! Please let us know what you decide.
Re: Re: After payment???? I was hoping that paying it off would have some bearing on my score. Oh well. I figure I should just pay it. It's only $800 and at least it's one more thing I wont have to worry about. The reason I'm in this mess now is because I failed to pay for stuff in the past. All of you are great and I appreciate all of your help. Thanks. I know I will have many questions coming up since I am just starting to repair my credit. Also, I have heard contradicting views on contacting CA's for disputes. A view say DON'T call submit letters only. The others say DON'T write call. What do you guys think about on-line disputes? I disputed one item, I know is not mine, on-line recently before I found out about this board. I'll let you know what happens Thanks again.
Re: Re: Re: After payment???? I ALWAYS send a letter if I need to contact a CA. (see sample letter section) You donâ??t want to talk to the CA directly. You need *proof* if they violate the law. Your paper trail will help prove your case! If you are talking about CRA I send letters. This gives you a paper trail to keep track of the 30 day timeframe and you will need your *proof* that you disputed the TL should you need to sue them for anything. You can dispute on-line I know some people do it that way the most important thing is to make sure that you print out your "confirmation" page that shows the date that you submitted your dispute. Remember the CRA is on a timeframe so you need to keep track of that and have PROOF of when you sent in your dispute.
Re: Re: Re: After payment???? you may still want to pay it, but i agree, dispute it first with TU, it may fall off. This does not eliminate your obligation to pay, but will have an effect on your fico score. sometimes you can get a judgement vacated, but it is not easy. there are restrictions.
Re: Re: After payment???? I am cleaning up my DH's and he had judgements. From my experience: Judgements stay on for ten yrs(judgement in CO moved to MN). Called Exp (stayed on), wrote TU( removed), wrote EFX (removed). wrote EXP(stayed on). This is within 8 months of fall-off date. I did this before finding this board and used a simple "this is not mine, please remove" letter. It seemed to work with all but EXP. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Re: Re: After payment???? From reading his posts it would appear he is looking to move up to higher rental property first & then maybe buy later. That's a good idea. Continue renting, wait until this falls off your report & then your interest rates will be much lower when you are ready to buy. Re: Re: After payment???? 1*Would it look better to a mortgage company if I pay it before they ask me to? 2*It sounds like it's better not to pay unless I have to. 3*I have heard of people paying judgments and then being able to get them removed after. Is that true or is it harder to remove if I pay it? losercore ================ 1*not likely 2*rite 3*Harder THE END ** *** ** LB 59 Long ago when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Re: Re: After payment???? losercore, One judgment for $800 on One credit report out of the three and it is 3 years old right? On a mortgage they will probably pull all 3 and average the FICO out right? I WOULD NOT let this be a factor as to when you can buy a home. I would just pay the $800 whenever you can, possibly dispute it off whenever, and not let this one little judgment determine when you can by a house. Actually be sure to pay it off months before a mortgage and make sure it is reported back satisfied at worst. FICO is not the only thing looked at anways, I would not worry about it much. Good luck!
Re: Re: Re: After payment???? Let me break it down for you: 1. Continue renting 2. Wait for the derog to fall off report 3. When derog falls off report, apply for new cc to rebuild credit 4. When you are ready to buy you will be approved at a lower interest rate due to good credit =)

If another derog hits your report in the mean time you get to wait an additional 7 years for it to fall off. 0ne and two are great ways to felicitate saving for a down payment on that home. 3*lets see 7 years for the derogs to fall off and 2 more years to rebuild credit.
