can someone tell me why your credit score would be lowered by closing an old account. I know part of the issue is possibly debt ratios, but besides that???

it wouldn't affect the age of your acounts, because isnt the age of accounts, determined by the date the item was inserted in your credit file, which would have nothing to do with any other date?

    help please....

Old and open is better than old and closed.

I think that the credit scores consider "average age of accts" for your open accts so having older accts open brings up the avg age. Also, I thought that the date opened DID count to determine this. I don't even want to think about having to rely on when there CRA SAYS the acct started reporting.

Your (outstanding) balance to credit limit ratio increases, negatively affecting risk scoring.
