After more than half a dozen disputes to EQ, I finally got them to delete the late payment history on a closed/paid Discover account. I have no idea why they deleted just the lates, because this time I disputed the account as "not mine", and not "never late" as I had in all of my previous disputes. Their response to me was that they confirmed that the account was mine, but that they deleted the payment history as a result of the investigation. Why? God only knows, but its much better than a full deletion because the account dates back to 1996 and I'd sure hate to lose it. In addition to changing my dispute from "never late" to "not mine", it was also my first online dispute with them. If you have been denied an investigation three of more times in a row, try it online. This is the second time this tactic has worked for me. The last one was with TU.
