Typical media spin/hype. They're not running your credit report to see if you pay your bills. Instead, they're running a limited report to see if your identity matches the information shown on your ID. For example, if you sign up for eBay to sell items, Equifax peofides a service called ID Verifiy to ensure that you're who you say you are. That way, eBay shoppers can feel safer knowing that you've been verified by Equifax as a real person who has an established history at a real address. At no time does anyone at eBay ever see your credit accounts or credit score. It's just an identity verification service that uses partial info from your credit file. The airlines will be using a modified version of the ID Verify system. The verification process will not contain any info related to the way you pay your bills, etc.
gotta - that is NOT what i was just told by CBS news and FOX news tonight they said they will be pulling a credit report to see your credit score which will be a major factor in the equation of what color code you are.

Don't worry, the airlines don't care about your credit score...just about proving your identity. However, I can forsee a day when a credit score will be used to determine eligibility for a lot more things...just not right now. All the major news services are hyping this story just to get people to tune in. The reality of the situation is that the airlines will use an ID verification service that the credit bureaus already provide to countless other businesses. It's nothing new...and it isn't based on how you pay (or don't pay) bills. It's just based on ID'ing you. With that said, I DO think it sucks. We're slowly losing our privacy. In this case, it's a small step toward a rather bleak future... The time to get worried is when you start to see the retina scanners at the airport check in counters.

Do you see the god knows how many people who are having problems with the mortgages and credit card companies because of inacurate information? Apparently, if you have a low FICO score, you are a bad driver, in poor health, and a terrorist. This is insane.
