Hubby got a collection notice today from Allied Creditor Service. He honestly has no idea what it could be for. We do know, however, that anything that he has that may be outstanding is WELL over 7 years old. There is no collection activity on any of his reports. Do I send a validation letter or just ignor unless it shows up somewhere? Thanks G
Send the validation letter. That will get you what the debt is for and to who. DO NOT PAY ANYTHING. Then check it against the SOL and go from there. This is assuming they can even prove it.
If it's over 7 years, that is why it isn't on his reports. However, you do need to find out what it is. The sol might still be a factor. And, even if the sol has expired and you would have a valid defense if they sued him, they can still attempt to collect. I also would send a validation. And when you find out what it is and are sure it is past the sol, then send them a cease and desist and tell them to get lost.
