    Hi,

My Ex-boyfriend has the Platinum Discover Card and he also added me as his addditional Card. I never use that card and I found out that his balance almost reaches the limit. He also pays with minimum amount every month. So I told him to cancel my card 6 months ago but after I pulled out my credit report yesterday. The record is still there with the balance he owes and :-

    Account Condition : Closed Account
Remarks : Credit line closed - consumer request- reported by subscriber.

Am I in trouble or does it effect my credit??

    Thanks in advance.

If it shows closed by consumer request that is not a bad thing. Closed by company/subscriber is not a good thing to have - that means the credit card company closed the account, not the user.

    Irish Diva,

Thanks for your quick reply. By the way, do you know how long that record will appear on my credit report? My Ex has planned not to pay that bill anymore as his difficult financial situation. Any suggestion?? or should I help him to pay off?? It's about $6000 balance.

    Thanks in advance.

If you did not open the account together and both of your incomes were not used as a basis for approval, I don't see why you cannot dispute it by saying it isn't your acccount, because technically, it sounds like it is not.

If its not a JOINT account, but an AUTHORIZED, you can dispute it right now and have it removed.

If he isn't planning on paying that, then he will be defaulting. I suggest you immediately dispute this item on your reports because even though you are an AU user if you let this stay on your reports I don't think it will look too well. Dispute it as being and AU and get this off there!!! It will stay on report 7 years and 180 days after the first day of delinquency.

It's very hard to get them to stop reporting (on a continual basis) once it defaults. I had this happen to me many moons ago , the darn AU kept coming back with a charge-off, even though the card was not in my name. Took 3 times with AMEX to get them to clear it, and I was pissed the first time, sitting in a bank, getting "denied" because of an AU charge-off.

(Bank was nationsbank aka Bank of America, account manager even reviewed it , and said i had to get a letterhead from amex stating it wasn't mine, even though the magical "A" type identifier was plainly in my view and explained)

I had my name as an auth. user, I wrote to them and told them that I thought my name had been fraudulently used because I don't why this is on my reports. They (the credit card co.) called me so fast you wouldn't believe it. My name was removed and then I sent a copy of the letter the credit card co. sent me (saying that my name had been removed) to all 3 credit reporting bureaus . The entry was deleted from all 3. Of course my name wasn't used fraudulently but I wanted them to act fast. Actually I was an auth. user (about 5 years ago) but my name was never removed and I no longer talk to the person who holds the card. And I am glad I did that, he filed bk last month. He too kept the balance just about maxed out.

    Hi,

Thank you all for taking time to response my message. I now get some idea but before I begin to dispute, How would I know if my additional card is an Authorized or Jointed. At the time my Ex filled the pre-approved form from Discover. It's just said " Additional Card" and My card and his card have the same credit card number. I tried to find on my credit report but I couldn't find the answer.

Here is the credit report which I pulled from Experian (by Online)

    http://www.geocities.com/gashosim/Credit.jpg

And my 3 in 1 credit report which I ordered from https://www.truecredit.com is on the way.

I have a couple questions in my mind :

    1. Should I contact Experian or Discover first?

    2. Should I tell my Ex to contact Discover and stop reporting? I can see his financial activities though my credit report.

    3. If anyone has the sample letter about this matter please help (as English is not my native language), I don't have the dispute form as I view it online.

Thank you all for taking your time to response. I really appreciate your help.

Did you sign for the card? Saying that you would pay for the debt incurred? If not, its authorized.

    Choice is:
    1. Joint (both applicants fill out all information, sign, etc).

    2. Auth : Applicant signs "for additional card" , you don't sign anywhere.

    Simple.

    Hi Sam,

Thank you so much. I just know I was an authorized user.

    Thanks again.
