Can anybody tell me the secured optima is
it a subprime card? Surely, it will not be
reported and does not converted to a regular
    account.In fact,it can't upgrade to any Amex
cards and still over thirty thousands of consumers had the secured card. Do you think
paying $25 annual fee with 18.48% apr and with 22.48% for cash advances is worth carrying the card? However,it's the best
looking cards in your wallet. Any comment?
    Regards,

Personally, almost everyone has the amex gold card (and i feel an optima is worse than gold in status). Between Corp Gold's, and plain amex gold's (my friend used to work in the mall, and when visiting, every damn soccer mom would use their amex gold).

    However, i don't have one :( but in 2.5 years i will. I think i can wait.

My brother who started out with no credit, after 11 months, got an amex gold. That doesn't say much about their exclusivity.

Now the Amex Platinum, thats impressive. I know ceo's of dot coms who don't have the amex Platinum card..

btw, make sure you have a money clip full of 50's or 100's too, gold preferably. A Bmw or Mercedes of that last 2-3 years , with the frog eyes. And an Armani suit (or Prada bag for you girls),
If its all about impressing others :)

For the most part, I don't pay attention, nor do my friends, to what card you have, cept the amex platinum. We all have platinum visa's, golds' , whatever. Same goes at work. Everyone there has $15-$20K lines on their visa cards. Many don't even use them because they just have the cash laying around.

It doesn't impress me to see a buddy have a wallet full of platinum/golds' and then find out he's nearly maxxed on all of them?

    Kinda sad, imo.

--What i'm saying is, I hope you pick the card that best FITS your needs, and is most economical, and not based solely on a need to impress others.

    Hi Sam,
Your comments are very impressive. The fact of
the matter is not anyone can be approved for
    the Amex platinum charge card.Basically,Amex
takes risk very seriously even the secured
optima is difficult to acquired. The application on the secured optima stated
    no bankruptcy,no outstanding tax lien,and
with any unpaid American Express account will
be grounds for denial.Honestly,I think any
Amex cards is favorable to the consumer even
the secured cards. As long as your acct is in
goodstanding after 12 months of cardmembership, you may be considered for an
Optima card with no required deposit.Once
you're approved, your credits situation will
    change dramatically.Just as Dogman's solid
experiences relationship with American Express.Someday later he will be approved
for the Amex platinum charge card.

You're comment strikes an interest here too:

Has anyone with the secured card, gotten an unsecured card?

If so, what was the condition of your credit, when you got the unsecured card, and how much line?

Seriously. I was under the impression, even with the secured card, you will not get their un-secured product without flawless (no major derog) credit.

    Maybe i misunderstood them.

    RE: AMEX Platinum

An old friend on mine got one he's prolly like 28 or so now. He had the slew of platinum visa's, and an amex gold. After he charged like $9000 to his gold one month (partial down payment for 2000 corvette), and paid it off in full the next month, they offered him the platinum a couple of months later. It's a pretty card :)

Perhaps it is how you exercise your card that shows amex that you need to be their in their elite status.

He makes about $90K/year also. I figured that was kind of low for them.

You might try to work your gold in similar fashion. and let us know :)

I believed JacquiG is the only person that
had the secured optima converted to a unsecured card.(mention half year ago by
Steven Z)But I might be wrong.
I currently don't have a Amex unsecured card.
Fortunately,I have had the secured optima for
six months.I had a green card for authorize
user in someone name.My credits is improving
in the past half year, many thanx to the good
    peoples in here.Furthermore,the credit that
I had a year ago from $500 secured to $15000
    unsecured with four bankcard,three department
    store cards,and one gas card.
FYI,if someone's credit reports has blemish
credits I doubted that application will be
    approval by American Express.
