I came across some notable items for those who are interested in the American Express Company. On Sept. 11, the American Express world headquarters building on Vesey Street, adjacent to the World Trade Center property, was damaged so badly that it was quickly evacuated. AmEx does not expect to reenter the building for at least 6 months. Employees quickly streamed out of the building, leaving behind personal property, photographs, important papers, etc. All world headquarters employees have been accounted for. However 10 other American Express employees who worked in the Corporate Services department on the 94th floor of one of the World Trade Center towers have not been heard from since the tragedy. An 11th Corporate Services employee is currently in intensive care. American Express has established a special toll-free phone number -- the "Business Continuity Hotline" -- for its employees to check the status of operations during the emergency, 1-888-505-0040. Chairman & CEO Ken Chenault held a Town Hall meeting for employees on September 20 at "The Theatre" in Madison Square Garden. You can listen to a replay of that meeting at 1-888-843-7419 (passcode 4742484#) until September 27. Al Kelly, Group President, US Consumer and Small Business Services, which is the division that handles the issuance and maintenance of credit and charge cards among other things, held a conference call for employees on September 19. That meeting can be heard at 1-888-843-7419 (passcode 4734273#) until October 19. I found this information by simply searching a public web search engine and came across this web page which openly listed this information: http://www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/page/0,1641,9757,00.asp On that page you can also read interesting messages from the CEO that were issued immediately following the events of September 11. I should mention that I don't know anyone who works at American Express, and none of this information was gleaned in any other way. For those who wish to be in communication with American Express Company's world headquarters (for praise, criticism, lawsuits, gifts, whatever, etc.), you should no longer send to the Vesey Street address (although I'm sure things are being forwarded of course). The new temporary world headquarters is now located here: American Express Company 90 Hudson St. Jersey City, NJ 07302-3996 Surely our thoughts are with the victims of these terrible events. Doc
The sad thing about the 90 hudson street location is that it is right opposite from the down town area of nyc. ( right across the hudson river ) I can imagine the amex employees going to work there and looking across the hudson river and only see a whole in the nyc landscape where the twin towers used to stand.
