Is it possible to get an amex after ch7?

AMEX was paid in full on time, all the time with no lates ever. They closed it after randomly checking my report and seeing the 7.

They claimed that i could reapply 1 year after ch7 discharge

    any input?

My wife worked for them as a Credit Analyst and she say's "No!"

But let me know if you apply because we are we are almost 5 years post BK and I, too, would love to have an AMEX again.

I know someone who filled CH7 back in 1981. He had a $35K balance with American Express discharged. He got a pre-approved letter from American Express for a gold charge card and filled it in. He got a letter saying before Amex would even consider approving any credit for him he would need to pay back the $35K balance he had discharged. My friend had balance discharge from Citibank and Chase and Bank of America also all of them opened a new account for him with 10 years of his CH.7 filing only card that wont open an account for him is American Express.

I have read some folks getting an Amex card 7 years post BK. But the approval criteria changes. I do know that you must pay any outstanding balance with them before they will consider you for a card...BK or no BK

No matter how many years went by, if some owed you 35k, would you take the risk of lending him unsecured debt again? AMEX is just protecting themselves

As long as you pay the debt, I think you should be given another chance, providing you qualify.

I dont blame Amex or other creditors that blacklist, but creditors should take you off the blacklist once you have paid off the debt.
