My Amex in the amount of almost $14,000 has been charged off. I received a collection letter from NCO Financial Systems, Inc. asking that I dispute the validity of the debt within 30 days. I have to send this in within a week to keep within the 30 day response window.

    My concerns:

    1. What is the next best step if I do not have to money to even settle with them at this time? Should I even settle at all?

    2. How quick will they move to attempt a judgment to garnish my wages?

    3. I heard that NCO usually has many violations that could hinder their case against me. What are the possibilities of this to be in my favor?

    Thanks,

    Validate and then Cease-and-Desist

First, send a validation letter. Second, send a cease and desist letter.
