    Dear GEORGE:

    Thank you for contacting us.

I have reviewed your account and your annual percentage rate is a fixed rate of 9.9%. This was determined after a review of your application and was accepted by you when you activated your Card.

Several factors are taken into consideration, including but not limited to other account that you may have, your credit score, and payment history. Therefore I am unable to reduce the rate.

I regret the unfavorable response and I hope that you understand our position in this matter. I assure you that you are a valued Cardmember and I hope that you will continue to do business with American Express. If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail me again.

In our continuing effort to improve email customer service, we would appreciate it if you would spend approximately 3-5 minutes to complete an on-line survey. Thanks in advance for your participation.

Please click on the URL link below to be taken directly into the survey:

Amex can verify assets often in minutes while you're on the phone. If your assets are substantial you'll get what you want. Amex as well as others are very generous when you show them the $$$.

    George,
    quick question.
it seems like you have firm financial ability and considerable net worth. why don't you establish lines of credit at local banks in CO? I've done this in both NY and CO and have found it much easier to establish lower rates and frequent increases with these banks. Personally, i would rather give my money to a local bank than some multi-national corp. that cares little for its customer's(as evidenced by you and everyone else on the board) and engages in shady and sometimes evil business practices to please their shareholders.(read: board of directors)

...AND I CALLED THE 1-888-BLUE-741 BEFORE I SENT THE E-MAIL AND WAS REJECTED BY THEM ALREADY!!!

Amex will verify your assets with your bank etc. They can often do the verification while you are on the phone. Sometimes it takes a fax but it is very quick. If they like what they see they will give you what you want. It's painless George. :)

Amex looks for an average balance over the life of the account they are verifying or for funds that have been in the same place for at least six months.

Front-line CSRs, as evidenced in my case, are not the ones who make that decision. What George got was an ordinary form-letter. In my experience, negotiating APRs is one of those things that cannot be done in writing. The only exception to it, IMHO, is PlanetFeedback.

How can they verify your assets in minutes?

Amex for example can contact your bank while you are on the phone to authorize release of the information they want. Your bank may require a fax, etc. but even in that case the verification can be done very quickly.

Once Amex verifies you have the $$ they will give you the spending power you want immediately ( by the time you get off the phone ).

If you have substantial assets you won't have limit problems with Amex.

I have ASSETS...but do I want AMEX to have access to it to only be DENIED a lower interest rate and a higher limit because THEY STILL HATE ME FOR OVER-PAYING THE ACCOUNT!!!

I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY OTHER CREDIT CARD EVER SAY DON'T EVER OVER-PAY THE ACCOUNT OR WE WILL CLOSE THE ACCOUNT BECAUSE IT VIOLATES OUR POLICY!!!

Cash is an asset. You can also have stock portfolios, etc. verified. LOL

You don't give Amex access to your assets George. They just want to know you have them. Just open the door and let 'em peek. :)

    ..........................................................................

Ok, I guess I'll buy that, maybe thats why AMEX has been denying my applications for the last 25 years.

I must have missed the asset part of the application,
and have certainly never gotten that far with one of
    their CSR's
    ...........................................................................

George, on the bright side, consider yourself lucky they consider you worthy of their buisness after overpaying them...LOL!
