I mentioned this before in response to someone's post about AMEX Gold, but it may have been missed: Since AMEX looks at your spending pattern with them before approving you for a Gold or Platinum charge card, does it hurt a lot to carry a balance with Blue or any other AMEX credit card? Does AMEX think you are carrying a balance because you can't pay your bills in full so you shouldn't get their charge cards? I used to pay off my Blue balance but I'm carrying a balance now because of the 9.9% fixed rate. I still pay off balances from my higher interest cards though.
They don't ASSUME anything... I make minimum payments on my 2.99% cards because I pay the cards above 9.99% in full...IT'S ONLY LOGICAL!!!
If AMEX doesn't assume anything then am I correct in assuming that carrying a balance on Blue has nothing to do with your chances of getting a Rewards Plus Gold or Platinum?
Your AMEX BLUE payment history if perfect after 6 months or one year = "PRE-APPROVED" second card PROBABLY. I'M waiting for the answer myself...I have had AMEX BLUE for ~18 months, just tried for AMEX CASH BACK CARD.
Re: AMEX Approval Would that be the Platinum Cash Rebate card, which also allows you to carry a balance?
Re: AMEX Approval I've also had Blue for quite some time now (got it when it was first introduced), but I never received any AMEX pre-approvals for any cards. I did apply for Optima Platinum in February and got it. I guess all I have to do is apply to get any new cards, but I'll wait for my hard inquiries to fall off before applying for Rewards Plus.
Re: AMEX Approval Making on time payments on you rBLue, especially over the minimum will help you get a charge card, but not hurt you
Re: AMEX Approval YES, AMEX PLATINUM CASH BACK CARD. 3.90% FOR 6 MONTHS ON A BALANCE TRANSFERS...AFTER THAT PAY IN FULL AND USE IT TO REPLACE THE "DUMPED" DISCOVERCARD...
Re: AMEX Approval Congrats George, I see that your wait was well worth it. It looks like AMEX does reward its good customers with better cards. I can't wait to move up to Rewards Plus or Platinum, it's those blasted inquiries that are holding me back. Thinking about the Centurion card, but will hold back unless I win the lottery!!!
Re: AMEX Approval George, you were approved for your AmEx plat cash back card? That's great! You deserve it! Now you can tell Discovercard to "poof, be gone". ;-)
